Here’s your chance to eat bright red bananas in Kaneohe

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Forget ripe and yellow.
On Sunday, Oct. 20, you’ll have the chance to taste a Red Cuban Banana in Kaneohe.
The vibrant fruit which some say has hints of raspberry and is sweeter, softer and creamier than a regular banana will be available at the third annual Ka Maia Hoolaulea Banana Festival.
Restaurants, farmers and others vendors will offer other varieties as well along with banana-inspired dishes and free samples at Windward Community College from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A special lecture will be given from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. for those who want to learn more about Mai’a banana culinary lore, botanical history and best growing practices.
There will also workshops to create art using parts of the banana plant and banana fiber weaving demonstrations during the festival.
Tickets are on sale for $10. It will also be available the day of the event for $12.
